Ocular disease detection and management plays an important role in protecting your vision and monitoring changes in your eye health. At Visionary Eye Care in Excelsior, we provide thorough eye health evaluations to identify signs of eye disease, track existing conditions, and determine when additional care may be needed.
Many eye diseases develop gradually and may not cause noticeable symptoms in their early stages. Routine evaluations allow us to look beyond changes in vision and assess the health of the eyes more closely.
Regular eye health evaluations can help us identify and monitor conditions that may affect vision over time. Depending on your individual eye health and risk factors, we may evaluate for conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, cataracts, and other retinal or optic nerve disorders.
Conditions affecting the retina, optic nerve, and other structures of the eye can progress before you notice a difference in your eyesight. Early detection gives us an opportunity to establish a baseline, monitor changes over time, and recommend an appropriate management plan.
Ocular disease detection and management may be especially important if you have certain risk factors, including:
A personal or family history of eye disease
Diabetes or other health conditions that may affect the eyes
Increasing age
Changes in peripheral or central vision
Unexplained blurry vision or other visual changes
A previously diagnosed eye condition
At our Excelsior office, we use diagnostic technology to gain detailed information about the health and function of your eyes. Our specialty testing includes Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), OPTOS retinal imaging, and visual field testing.
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) creates detailed cross-sectional images of the retina, helping us examine its individual layers and monitor changes associated with certain ocular diseases. OPTOS retinal imaging provides an ultra-widefield view of the retina, allowing us to examine a broad area at the back of the eye. Visual field testing measures central and peripheral vision and is particularly useful when evaluating conditions that affect the optic nerve or visual field.
If an eye condition is detected, our approach is based on your diagnosis, risk factors, symptoms, and test results. Some patients need routine monitoring, while others may require more frequent evaluations to track changes in their eye health.
Our team uses follow-up examinations and appropriate diagnostic testing to compare results over time. This ongoing approach to ocular disease management helps us identify meaningful changes and determine the appropriate next steps for your care.
If you have been diagnosed with an eye condition, have risk factors for ocular disease, or want a more detailed evaluation of your eye health, schedule an appointment with Visionary Eye Care to discuss ocular disease detection and management in Excelsior.
